Hi, I’m Kendall

I've been a creative writing teacher, career & retirement counselor, writer and artist for decades. I've worked at Harvard as a career consultant for 15 years and present at major universities, corporations, conferences and communities as well as having a private career & life design and writing & teaching practice.

Woven in has been travels to 36 countries, living in 5, joining the peace corps in Iran, having photographs in major museums, publishing 65 editions of students' life stories, and writing novels, one of which is currently being adapted for film.

I graduated from Penn and Columbia, win awards and grants for my public art projects, and appear on radio and TV.

Work with me

Workshops

Workshops, programs and special projects for inviduals wondering that is next in their creative and personal lives. This often involve multimedia, working with images, photographs, paint, earlier writings, letters, newsprint, key objects and the associations, memories, what ifs, and life reinterpretations that flow from such adventuring.

People create itineraries for the next part of their lives that may include a move, a job or work shift, a testing out of long-held dream-ideas, and construct a life travel “map” that takes note of the varied sides of our complex natures

Life design

What's next? Perhaps the way forward is clouded by life circumstance, practical necessity, our age or mindset. Now may be the time to open to wider, even more unusual possibilities.

But how to begin? Steps include opening to the past and present to see what may be hiding in plain sight or been buried by time and  habit. Deep longings may surface; the road may look empty, desired goals may appear out of reach. Whatever the questions, the way we research, name and hold ideas  affects how we make use of them.

What my students say

  • Kendall has changed my life. I have become a writer!  He is not a teacher as much as an advisor – to each of us fortunate enough to be under his wing. His gentle but perspicacious comments have brought both confidence and improvement to all of us who participate.

Kendall runs his groups both as a leader and a participant, creating a space where those of us who attend benefit not only from his prompts and comments but from each other’s – his kind thoughtful approach models our own interactions.

And – he is funny and fun and quirky and a damn good writer!

    - Heidi

  • Kendall Dudley is a writing whisperer. Whether you are an absolute beginner or a have already published, Kendall’s classes will help you reach deeper and find your true voice. His groups help everyone tap into their innate creativity and truth. With playful enthusiasm and keen attunement, he helps you find the story nugget hidden in the weeds. Kendall is a creative force and a treasure. He has changed my life.

    — Juliet

  • I have been surrounded and nourished by Kendall’s writing for several decades.  Writing filled with marvelous use of language, vivid stories and an entirely original sense of humor.  He ranges from a sliver of a vignette which can be astonishing, to a larger more complex story filled with an extraordinary and entirely original use of language.  It is always and in all ways a pleasure and a gift to listen to him read what he has written.
